Dr. Nicola Hermanto, Ph.D., C.Psych.

Dr. Nicola Hermanto is a registered psychologist and holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from McGill University. She has trained in a variety of hospital settings in Montreal working with individuals and couples on issues of depression, anxiety, and relationship and sexual concerns. She completed her internship in Toronto at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) working in inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on relational trauma and complex clinical presentations. Dr. Hermanto further completed post-doctoral training at the Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic at CAMH to enhance her expertise in the research and clinical care of individuals with emotion dysregulation.

Dr. Hermanto uses evidence-based treatments that are tailored to the unique needs of her clients. She integrates the approaches of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). She provides a therapeutic environment that is warm, empathic, non-judgmental, and collaborative to support clients in making personally meaningful and lasting changes.

Dr. Hermanto has a special interest in working with clients who struggle with self-criticism, shame, and experiences of trauma. She enjoys helping clients foster compassion and acceptance towards themselves, as well as in their relationships with others. She has authored scientific articles and presented at national and international conferences on the topic of self-compassion.

Dr. Hermanto is a registered member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Ontario Psychological Association.
